Name
Rehab Revolution Breakfast: Historic Buildings and Carbon Reduction
Date & Time
Wednesday, October 30, 2024, 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM
Description

On the last day of the conference, enjoy breakfast with your peers while hearing different perspectives on how the reuse, retrofit, and rehabilitation of older and historic buildings can help address climate change. Shockingly, existing buildings are responsible for almost 37 percent of carbon emissions and more than a third of existing buildings in the U.S. are over 50 years old.

Licensed as both an architect and professional engineer, Lori Ferriss will translate the science behind the retrofit of older buildings and their impacts on our climate. Ferriss will also highlight modifications that have the largest environmental impacts and share a tool she co-created to evaluate retrofit options.

Afterwards, Ferris will join a discussion with Mike Grote with Alembic Community Development (New Orleans, LA) and Jennifer Parker (Washington, DC) from the National Park Service to discuss actions they recommend we as preservationists take to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to a changing climate.

Presented in partnership with The 1772 Foundation.

P.S. One lucky person present at the Rehab Revolution Breakfast will receive a free conference registration to attend next year’s conference!
