Mike Grote is an accidental real estate developer, accidental preservationist, builder and recovering architect, focusing on unique community development projects in the city and regionally. Working on the Gulf Coast since the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina profoundly affected his values and outlook, the focus of his work in community development and the importance being useful to those communities.

He is the co-Director of the New Orleans office of Alembic Community Development a mission driven Real Estate Developer. In the last 10 years, the New Orleans offices has developed over $100 Million dollars many of which are historic adaptive reuse projects.

He previously worked for Mississippi State University’s Gulf Coast Community Design Studio and an international NGO. Mike has been an adjunct lecturer for Mississippi State University and Tulane University and holds a MS-Building Construction Management-Design Build with a minor in Community Planning from Auburn University and a Bachelors of Architecture from the University of Houston.

He lives in New Orleans with his wife Kathy and daughter Luz.
