Sam owns SLC Investment Services and has been providing financial consulting services in Galveston County for over 26 years. In 2015 he was named Galveston County’s Citizen of the Year for his work in Galveston County and the preservation community on the local, state and national levels.
Sam graduated from Texas A&M University in 1994 and has been a lifelong resident of Galveston County. He is married to his wife Doris. They have four children, two daughters and two sons.
Sam currently serves on the Board of Advisors with the National Trust for Historic Preservation representing Texas. Also serves on the Ruby Bridges Foundation board. He is actively involved in the national campaign to #TellTheFullStory by expanding the narrative and telling the truth about American history. He was very active in the effort to recognize the Sugar Land 95 that were discovered in Fort Bend County in 2018. His work as a historian has given him many opportunities to speak for major corporations, colleges and universities across the country including Nike, Microsoft, Boeing, Allstate, Wendy’s, Texas A&M, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Harvard, UT, U of H and other universities/colleges.
Sam is working in Brazoria County with the Texas Historical Commission at the Levi Jordan Plantation as a consultant for the new museum that will be built at the site. He is former co-chair of the Juneteenth Legacy Project Committee in Galveston which commissioned one of the largest Public Art projects (almost 5000 sq ft) in the country on the Strand in Galveston. The mural highlights the Juneteenth story and was completed two months before Juneteenth became a national holiday.
