Tim Askin is a Milwaukee native and the lead Historic Preservation Planner for the City of Milwaukee, where he has worked since 2016. He earned his M.S. in Historic Preservation at the University of Oregon, where he honed his research interest in the architecture of social welfare and carceral spaces. Publications have included the Oregon Encyclopedia, Lane County Historian, and the Historic American Building Survey. In Wisconsin, he recently won the Wisconsin Association of Historic Preservation Commissions Award of Excellence for a survey of Milwaukee’s 20th-century religious architecture. He is also a founding board member of Docomomo-US/Wisconsin, which works to advocate for the preservation of Modernist architecture.
