Description

Experience the ancient Indigenous landscapes of southern Wisconsin, as viewed through the preserved remnants of earthen burial mounds. View the ancient mounds at Milwaukee's Lake Park and Dodge County's Nitschke Mound Group and Lizard Mound State Park. Lunch at a Main Street restaurant in between sites. At each stop, archaeologists and Tribal Preservation Officers will share both background on the earthen structures as well as the efforts to preserve, interpret, and contextualize them. Though Wisconsin law protects all human burial sites, unmarked cemeteries and Native American mounds are in danger of being accidentally damaged. Learn ways to protect them and how owners of land that include these burial sites may receive property tax exemptions. Extensive walking. Forum Members: $60 / Regular: $80
