Date & Time
Thursday, September 18, 2025, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Description

The award-winning Milwaukee Hip Hop Archive Project exemplifies how preservation can harness community-driven innovation to amplify local stories and cultural heritage. By blending museum preservation practices with the energy of Hip Hop Culture, this project has engaged a diverse range of participants—artists, historians, students, and community members—to collaboratively document and preserve Milwaukee's rich Hip Hop history. This session will showcase the innovative use of interactive public archive days, pop-up exhibitions, virtual and public activations, and educational workshops to connect preservation efforts with new audiences. Participants will also explore how partnerships with local institutions, like the Wisconsin Black Historical Society and TRUE Skool, have been instrumental in designing this dynamic, community-centered initiative. Attendees will leave inspired and equipped with ideas to apply these outreach and research techniques to their own preservation challenges or projects.
