Name
How Public Art is Expanding the Narrative of American History
Date & Time
Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Description
As we consider two significant milestones—160 years since June 19, 1865 (Juneteenth) in 2025 and 250 years since July 4, 1776 in 2026—the ways we tell our shared history are evolving. Public art, monuments and museums are being used to expand the narrative of our shared history. This session will explore how creative projects connect these anniversaries, while acknowledging that, for some, these dates hold complex meanings. Join us as we examine how history, while rooted in the past, is being taught through current public art projects in hopes of creating a better future.
