Eleanor Burke is the Deputy Director of the New Orleans and Central Business District Historic District Landmarks Commission (NO & CBD HDLC). The NO & CBD HDLC regulate eighteen local historic districts as well as individual landmarks that represent the architectural and cultural heritage of New Orleans. After attaining her Masters of Science in Historic Preservation from the Columbia University School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Eleanor returned her home to New Orleans. She began her tenure at the NO & CBD HDLC as a Building Plans Examiner in 2001 and has served as Deputy Director since 2007. In her role as Deputy Director, Ms. Burke manages a staff of ten, crafts policy, and advises the administration and City Council regarding Historic Preservation best practices. Eleanor is a founding member of the local New Orleans chapter of DOCOMOMO (Documentation and Conservation of the Modern Movement). She is a member of the City of New Orleans Design Advisory Committee and a member of the board of Longue Vue House and Gardens. Eleanor Lectures regularly to various civic groups regarding historic Preservation, New Orleans Architectural History, types and styles.
