As Route 66 approaches the Centennial anniversary of this storied road in 2026, the National Trust is undertaking a multi-year Preserve Route 66 Initiative across eight states. This initiative has an intentional focus on the hidden legacies of the broad Route 66 corridor, including sites associated with People of Color (including but not limited to Indigenous peoples, Latinx Americans, Black Americans and others), women, immigrants, LGBTQ+, veterans and economically distressed communities.
Learn more about how the National Trust is providing grants, technical assistance and creating a new Route 66 GIS & Crowdsourcing campaign to help preserve and interpret Route 66 sites for the next century.
